Guide & Build Strategies

Lore & Bio

Pugna is known as a monster capable of causing fear at first sight. He was summoned back from the dead so what remains in his memory is very little. However, Pugna's magical power has not been lost.

Very brutal to his enemies, the power radiating from his flaming skeleton transported and trapped the enemy into another dimension and tortured him. He then sends them into a massive blast of energy for destruction. Fearful eyes are the methods that Pugna uses to suck blood, replenish life force to kill enemies.

As one of the nuking heroes possessing immense magical power, Pugna uses his own abilities to tackle the enemies he encounters in the arena. He swept and blew them away to contribute to the final victory for his team.

Two nuclear weapons are the most powerful skills Pugna possesses to oppose the enemy. Besides, in this champion's skill set, there are two additional skills that amplify damage and limit the enemy's magic power to help Pugna stay in lane better.

Pugna's power will be best exposed in the early-mid phase. Therefore, if you want to confront this champion, players must choose the generals that have the best early-mid countermeasures.

Skills building guide

skill building guide dota 2 masterdota

Each move gives Pugna its own power. If you want him to maximize his power, he must know how to increase his skills properly. In the guide on how to play Pugna dota 2, the masters recommend that you turn Q, W, E at the first 3 levels and increase the first Nether Blast max. Because this move can amplify your own strength and help you easily destroy enemies, especially in the early game. Decrepify increases next and maxes last Life Drain. Don't forget to increase Life Drain (ultimate) at levels 6-12-18.

Abilities

Nether Blast

  • Pugna activates this ability to cause an explosive pulse that follows waves and affects enemies and structures within a certain area.
  • Costs 85/105/125/145 mana for each level, but the amount of damage he deals is not small up to 100/175/250/325 to champions and 33% damage to structures.
  • This amount of damage gives him a pretty big advantage, especially in the early game.

Decrepify

  • This move is a defensive skill of Pugna. While activating this skill he cannot attack or be attacked, however can slow and cause enemies to take up to 40% more magic damage for the next ability.
  • Because of that, you can amplify Pugna's power and damage. Use this skill then activate Nether Blast and Life Drain to increase Pugna's damage and ATK.

Nether Ward

  • A nether is placed at the hero's mana and incinerates enemies in a fire if they dare to use magic power.
  • Not only does Pugna deal damage equal to the amount of mana consumed by the opponent, but this move of Pugna also prevents the enemy from recovering mana.

Life Drain

  • When this move is activated, for about 10 seconds, Pugna can drain the target's HP. Not only is it easy to finish off enemies, but it also helps Pugna to stay in the lane better, especially in teamfights.

Effective items guides

Early game

Magic Stick

Magic Stick and Magic Wand: In a pinch, Pugna's Magic Stick and Magic Wand offer burst health and mana, allowing him to survive and perform additional spells.

Boots of Speed

Boots of Speed: Pugna's movement speed is increased with Boots of Speed, which helps him compensate for his poor defense.

Mid game

Tranquil Boots

Tranquil Boots provide increased movement speed and health regeneration, which may be shared on to allies via Life Drain.

Aether Lens

Aether Lens boosts Pugna's mana pool and mana regeneration, making spell casting easier. Pugna can keep a safe distance from foes because to the enhanced cast range.

Rod of Atos

Rod of Atos provides Pugna with characteristics as well as a root that may be used to keep foes down for Life Drain.

Orchid Malevolence

Orchid Malevolence: The stillness of Orchid Malevolence provides Pugna with a much-needed disable spell. Furthermore, the burst damage obtained when the debuff expires may be magnified, on top of the already amplified damage received from a Life Drain and Decrepify combo, which is very simple to do with the skill.

Late game

Black King Bar

Black King Bar: Pugna is protected from being interrupted when channeling Life Drain because to Black King Bar's spell immunity. Enemies will find him nearly invulnerable to harm when paired with a self-cast Decrepify.

Linken's Sphere

Linken's Sphere: Linken's Sphere gives attributes, regeneration, and Spellblock to prevent single targeted disables that might cause Life Drain to stop.

Boots of Travel

Boots of Travel: Boots of Travel allows you to travel quickly and have a worldwide presence.

Situation items

Bottle

Bottle: The Bottle maintains life and mana while also allowing you to store runes for later use.

Dagon

Dagon: In conjunction with Decrepify, Dagon delivers intelligence and a massive magical explosion. Before resistances, a complete nether blast, decrepify, dagon 5 combination does roughly 1500 damage.

Aghanim's Scepter

Aghanim's Scepter: Pugna gains greater life and mana from Aghanim's Scepter, allowing him to activate abilities more frequently. Given enough mana, the improved Life Drain with no cooldown allows for unlimited uptime.

Aghanim's Shard

Aghanim's Shard: While channeling the primary enemy, Aghanim's Shard forces Life Drain to target additional enemy heroes, which is effective for both gaining extra health and diverting enemy attention away from allies, since they will be busy with stopping your cast.

Enemies & Allies

Allies

Enchantress

  • Surprisingly, Enchantress is in worse shape than Pugna. Though Impetus gives her a lot of power, she can't utilize it if she's under Decrepify.

  • Pugna's Magical DPS is far higher than Nature's Attendants' heal, which will also hurt her a lot if she's near Nether Ward.

Juggernaut

  • Until Omnislash obtains a Nullifier, Decrepify is the best tool against him, and even then, he'll probably squander a few slashes before using it.

  • Pugna's rapid movement speed makes chasing him with Blade Fury difficult without an extra disable.

  • Unlike some other carriers, like Slark or Phantom Assassin, Juggernaut's spells cost a lot of mana, thus Nether Ward will punish him a lot. Don't forget that the ward's damage is dealt before Blade Fury's spell immunity kicks in.

Outworld Destroyer

  • He will absorb more damage from your ward than he will deal to you with Arcane Orb for the majority of the game.

  • If he doesn't die first from casting Sanity's Eclipse adjacent to your ward, it will require a significant disparity in farm or itemization between you for him to do any damage to you with Sanity's Eclipse.

  • Decrepify makes Pugna impervious to Arcane Orb's assaults.

Timbersaw

  • Timbersaw may be punished by Nether Ward since he is a spellcaster with short cooldowns. Timbersaw also frequently emerges in the middle of a combat, putting him in range of Nether Ward's Mana Flares.

  • Life Drain is not stopped by Timbersaw's stuns or silences. Pugna's Spells are entirely magical, therefore the damage they do to Timbersaw may be catastrophic.

  • Decrepify can raise Timbersaw's magical damage even further, circumventing the benefits of Reactive Armor's increased physical resistance.

Leshrac

  • He will absorb more damage from your ward than he will deal to you with Arcane Orb for the majority of the game.

  • If he doesn't die first from casting Sanity's Eclipse adjacent to your ward, it will require a significant disparity in farm or itemization between you for him to do any damage to you with Sanity's Eclipse.

  • Decrepify makes Pugna impervious to Arcane Orb's assaults.

Counters

Anti-Mage

  • Anti-Mage may often achieve several kills with a single use of his Mana Void on Pugna if he's missing a significant percentage of his mana, because Pugna relies on his friends for protection.

  • Anti-Mana Mage's Break almost always deals the additional damage from the mana burn due to Pugna's enormous mana pool.

  • Counterspell eliminates a huge portion of Pugna's damage, as his spells account for the majority of his damage.

  • Blink can be employed to escape out of a tight spot, and Pugna has no method of stopping him from doing so.

Clockwerk

  • Clockwerk enjoys Hookshotting enemies with low health and mobility, such as Pugna.

  • Due to Battery Assault, Pugna's Life Drain is canceled immediately and frequently (if an Aghanim's Scepter was acquired), especially if Pugna is locked inside Power Cogs.

  • Clockwerk also enjoys crafting Blade Mail, which, owing to Pugna's tiny health pool, will do more damage to him than Clockwerk.

  • Finally, he may use both Hookshot and Rocket Flare to finish down Pugna while staying out of range of his Nether Ward.

Chaos Knight

  • The illusions created by Phantasm are not instantaneously destroyed by Life Drain.

  • Chaos Bolt effectively disrupts Life Drain Reality Rift's channeling, making it difficult for Pugna to maintain his distance.

  • Chaos Knight takes very little damage from Nether Ward.

  • Chaos Knight's overwhelming damage and illusions will either quickly deplete Pugna's low HP or safely remove the Nether Ward from the battlefield.

Luna

  • Luna can withstand the majority of Nether Ward's damage because she only has two castable talents with a low mana cost.

  • Luna's low-cooldown Lucent Beam and right clicks may constantly inflict damage on Pugna.

  • Because of Lucent Beam's long range, it can consistently negate Pugna's Life Drain.

  • Pugna's damage output is completely negated by Luna, a frequent Black King Bar bearer.

  • If Pugna uses Decrepify on himself to dodge Luna's right click, she can utilize Lucent Beam and Eclipse to bring him down.

Items Counter

Force Staff

  • For a little mana cost, Force Staff helps someone to easily escape a Life Drain. You can also avoid Nether Blast with nimble fingers.

Glimmer Cape

  • Both the Glimmer Cape and the Pipe of Insight significantly diminish Pugna's damage output.

Black King Bar

  • Against Black King Bar, Pugna's only weapon is a defensive Decrepify.

Blink Dagger

  • Blink Dagger is fantastic against Pugna since he despises being pounced on due to his highly vulnerable character.

Linken's Sphere

  • Life Drain and Decrepify are both blocked by Linken's Sphere.

Lotus Orb

  • Life Drain and Decrepify are reflected in the Lotus Orb.

Nullifier

  • Decrepify is dispelled by Nullifier.

Eul's Scepter of Divinity

  • Decrepify is dispelled by Eul's Scepter of Divinity, which may also be used to avoid Nether Blast.

Favorable Matchups

Grimstroke

  • If Pugna casts Decrepify on the victim, Phantom's Embrace cannot be removed, creating an extremely hazardous and perhaps lethal combination.

  • Due to the delays and double casting, Stroke of Fate and Soulbind have a lethal synergy with Pugna.

Io

  • Io and Pugna can easily Relocate gank for Decrepify, which boosts his other spells and Io's Spirits.

  • You may cast Life Drain on Io to give it health while Tether is healing an ally, causing Tether to heal its target for a ludicrous amount of health, which is essential for saving a crucial ally.

Legion Commander

  • Pugna can cast his spells while Duel holds an enemy hero. He can Decrepify the target or heal her with Life Drain if she is losing a Duel.

Necrophos

  • A good opponent will aim to focus on Necrophos at all times. Here's another buddy that can assist you get your spells off by taking the enemy's initiation for you. Don't forget to return the favor by giving him a friendly Life drain and greatly increasing the damage from Reaper's Scythe, or at the very least shielding him from right clicks.

Medusa

  • Here's an ally who will take the brunt of the damage. Remember that once she's back to full health, you may use Life Drain to replenish her mana.

  • Don't forget to repeat Nether Blast as she tanks the tower for your squad if your mana lets it.

Game plan

Early game

Pugna is one of the easiest early games in Dota. You have an AoE spell to destroy a creeping wave and also damage your enemies in your lane, it will be very helpful in the laning phase to get the most hits and also can harass the opponent. And if someone is trying to gank you, you can use your Decrepify to somehow run away from gank. Maybe you can cast Decrepify to your chaser and make his movements slow so you can run away.

Mid game

In mid game, usually people start to gank each other. What you need to do is to find the enemy to kill easy to start your team. Go to the target's lane and use Decrepify + Nether Blast + Life Drain to destroy the target. And always tell your friends to help you because maybe your combo is not enough to destroy your target so friends can help deal more damage.

Late game

In the late game you are becoming stronger than before. I assume you already have Aghanim Scepter and are ready to destroy enemies in teamfight. Before starting the teamfight, place your Nether Ward in a secret location and make sure your enemies can't see it so the ward will deal the damage and your opponent can't see it coming. You can use that to physically attack their Decrepify and make him unable to attack your party, and then you can use Nether Blast and also damage your opponent's Drain life. friend.
